Well hello world!
Please imagine that I am yawning and stretching and crawling out from a groundhog hole or similar. It has been so long since I have written! So much has been on the go the last two weeks it seems like we’ve stuffed several months worth of activity into fourteen little days. A bizarre but exquisite balance between being exhausted and energized.
So, here are a couple of the many things that have happened since I made those vows:
1. The opening receptions for Boxed In! at The Rooms and the Craft Council Gallery! I can’t even begin to talk about all the stunning pieces housed in this exhibition. The craftspersonship is unmatched, with a healthy dose of material tension, sentimentality, emotional force and, my favourite, puns. If you’re in St. John’s or nearby, please do yourself a favour and go check out the show – on until April 14.
2. I started a new job! Here, at the Anna Templeton Centre for Craft, Art & Design. It’s pretty rad. ATC is this completely brilliant not-for-profit whose goal is to provide workshops in craft and art, with masterful instructors in knitting, felting, sewing, jewellery making, painting, drawing…the list goes on! Classes occur on evenings and weekends, ranging in ages from 3 to 103. I’m signed up to do a class in Embroidery Fundamentals, which I am really excited for, as it will make my weird hair sewing practice more robust. We’re beginning our spring programming now, so artists in the area – if you have some nifty workshop ideas send them our way at firstname.lastname@example.org
3. The house got a new couch & armchair and I got a new haircut.
