Here it comes: the one, the only, the Art Marathon Festival 2013!
You may remember the photos and stories of all-nighter art-venture last August. It’s coming back and bigger than ever. Last summer, Sherwin Tjia’s Slowdance brought us all together to kick off the festival, and we welcomed a dozen visiting artists from across Canada – and one from France! The festival was jam-packed, including community-based projects centred around map-making and the social significance of spaces, public installations and film screenings, workshops and artist talks.
All of this awesome led up to the namesake event: the 24 Hour Art Marathon. Hundreds of people flooded through the space, bands and djs rocked all night long, and delicious foods were donated by Big Al’s Heavy Metal Soup Kitchen and Rocket Bakery to keep us awake/alive. The marathon culminates in an afternoon art auction of all the work done in the previous 24 hours – proceeds go to the artists and the gallery.
This year we’re planning something brand-spankin’-new that preserves all of the awesome pizazz from last year while injecting some exciting new experiments – including, for the very first time, a theme: dreamworlds. And we want YOU to participate! If you are a professional artist in Canada (and especially in Newfoundland!) we would be thrilled to review your proposal.
Please send it here: firstname.lastname@example.org, or mail it to the gallery: 72 Harbour Dr., St. John’s, NL, A1C 1B1. Submission details can be found here.
The Art Marathon Festival will take place August 14th to 18th 2013 in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
Get ready to rock!
