As you already know, I have a bit of a penchant for hand-making cards. However, over the course of the last year I have acquired a huge variety of new skill sets, primarily as a result of enrolling in classes at my place of work, the Anna Templeton Centre for Craft, Art & Design. Some of those skills include natural dyes, block printing, and weaving. My excitement for learning and my delight in the hand-made have resulted in the craftiest holiday season ever – including the creation of hand-printed cards with pen and ink embellishments and woven pieces incorporating hand-dyed wools.
What is especially nice about using these very time consuming techniques to create gifts is that each material, each process, each object and image, all become meditations on an individual and the nature and beauty of each unique relationship. And so each action is infused with a warmth, and the objects become radiant manifestations of appreciation.
